seetThis was introduced to us today by my colleague Seet, who is a big fan of photography and whose pictures are all over my cubicle. I am a lover of good photography as well and love appreciating his work.

Malaysia has a Lomography Club that allows people with the same interests in photography share their passion together and this is a good way to not only build interest in the art, but also is a fun way of learning a new skill as well.

I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by some of the best photographers in the industry, both in and out of Malaysia and I am openly endorsing this interest.

Opening in cinemas on 6th August 2009, this is a documentary by Dick Chua, featuring a group of photographers travelling to Penang from Kuala Lumpur to capture images of life in the colorful island filled with its vibrant residents and historical buildings.

I encourage everyone to see it when it is released in theaters. I know I will be reserving my seat for the first day.

What a way to quit a job March 26, 2009

I have heard, read and seen some crazy ways of which people quit their jobs, but this one took the cherry not because it was quirky or weird. It won a feature on my blog because the content of this resignation letter was very relevant to what is going on today in this economic climate and sheds a lot of light into the plight of AIG’s employees who are also victims in this entire AIG fiasco.

This resignation letter appeared in the New York Times in their OP-ED column, by Jake DeSantis, an executive vice president of the American International Group’s financial products unit, to Edward M. Liddy, the chief executive of A.I.G.

An excerpt:

I have the utmost respect for the civic duty that you are now performing at A.I.G. You are as blameless for these credit default swap losses as I am. You answered your country’s call and you are taking a tremendous beating for it.

But you also are aware that most of the employees of your financial products unit had nothing to do with the large losses. And I am disappointed and frustrated over your lack of support for us. I and many others in the unit feel betrayed that you failed to stand up for us in the face of untrue and unfair accusations from certain members of Congress last Wednesday and from the press over our retention payments, and that you didn’t defend us against the baseless and reckless comments made by the attorneys general of New York and Connecticut.

Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow

This came to my attention today and I must say I can only describe it with one word: Shocking! I conclude a few things from viewing these videos:

1. Rachel Maddow might have a personal vendetta towards BM as she has been slamming them non stop

2. BM have agreed to take on a host of controversial clients who are viewed by many in the world as “evil”

3. This is one scary TV journalist because she doesn’t miss a beat. I would hate being interrogated like that by her

4. I agree on her allegations towards AIG. I think it was wrong for this embattled company to have spent the money they did. It was unwise and there will be a reckoning.

Bullshit & Brilliance March 17, 2009

This was a great story sent up by my manager today. I had a good laugh reading it and thought I would share it with everyone:

Bullshit and Brilliance:

A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her faithful aged poodle named Cuddles along for the company.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, Cuddles discovers that he’s lost.  Wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old poodle thinks, ‘Oh, oh! I’m in deep doo-doo now!’  Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat.  Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old poodle exclaims loudly, ‘Boy, that was one delicious leopard!  I wonder if there are a ny more around here.’

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees.  ’Whew!’ says the leopard, ‘That was close!  That old poodle nearly had me!’

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the entire scene from a nearby tree figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard.  So off he goes, but the old poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up.  The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, ‘Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what’s going to happen to that conniving canine!’

Now, the old poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, ‘What am I going to do now?’, but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn’t seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old poodle says:

‘Where’s that damn monkey?  I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!’

Moral of this story….

Don’t mess with old farts... Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!  Bullshit and brilliance only come with age and experience.

I found this article purely by accident. I thought it was one of the most enjoyable articles I have read in a long time.

Highly recommended read: 222 facts about sex

“In an international survey Germans ranked as the worst lovers in the world because they only think about their own pleasure in bed. Also not too popular were Turks (too sweaty), Swedes (too quick), Dutch (too rough), Americans (too dominating), British (too fat) and Russians (too hairy). The winners, again, were the Italians.”

That quote took the icing on the cake. Most excellent.

There will be no shark fin soup for my wedding! March 15, 2009

So this lady went nuts for being denied of not having any more shark’s fin soup to eat. And she completely lost it.

Let me say it now so everyone is MENTALLY prepared:

1. I do not support the shark fin harvest for consumption. I think it is inhuman to kill sharks the way it is done today. If you want the fin, please take the whole shark and not just slice off the fin and throw the animal back into the ocean when it is writhing in pain.

2. There will be in no means ANY shark fin soup served in my wedding banquet. None. Zilch. Na da.

In the meantime, enjoy the video:

Hello Kitty & MAC (Make up) Collaboration March 10, 2009

So I had tweeted about this last week when I discovered that Hello Kitty was collaborating with MAC make up to produce a unique line of make up products for consumers. My reaction?

SHEER HORROR!

OMG I HATE THAT STUPID CAT!

MURDER I CRY MURDER!

TREASON!

But when I got over that phase, I enjoyed taking pictures of the spectacle that unfolded before my eyes as these two companies launched this new initiative. And of course, it was mighty entertaining to watch the many cutesy women rushing to the outlets to get their pink manicured fingers on these limited-edition items.

Me? I’m content with my black liquid last eyeliner from MAC, thank you very much.

I had a rather nasty encounter today in the office bathroom that I thought I would share in detail here, cause it both disgusted as well as shocked me to an extend that I feel this need to write about it. Here is a full transcript of my conversation with my fiance, following that unfortunate incident:

Ser Young says (15:41):
welcome back
Rach L says (15:41):
there was this horrid woman
Ser Young says (15:41):
i read your tweet
lol
Rach L says (15:41):
who like literally crashed into the bathroom and slammed the bathroom door and then i heard her rush out
Rach L says (15:42):
scrambled to pull out toilet paper
and then rushed back, slammed the door
*rattle rattle*
struggled to pull down her pants/skirt and then
*plup plup plup*
(passing motion)
and then
she got up, and then SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY
Rach L says (15:43):
she used the spray hose provided in the cubicle and literally sprayed the entire bathroom wet
and then *wipe wipe* put on clothes and slammed out the door
the door slammed out and in
and she trodded to the sink
Rach L says (15:44):
and i heard her go *fushhhhhhhhhhhhhh* as she turned on the tap full blast
and she pressed the soap dispenser violently
like *bang bang bang bang bang*
Rach L says (15:45):
and then scrubbed her hands violently like *kesh kesh kesh*
and then
open full blast tap water again
and lo and behold with her dripping wet hands, flicked all the water onto the ground, wetting the washroom floor
Rach L says (15:46):
as she grabbed toilet paper, wiped and then finally threw and slammed out the door
OMG.
she made a horrific mess when she left
Ser Young says (15:47):
wow
sounds like a big woman?
Rach L says (15:47):
ugh
sounds like an inconsiderate woman
who has no sense of cleanliness
Ser Young says (15:48):
terrible

And hence ends my traumatic afternoon.
